The Ghana Health Service has introduced two new belt colours for two new levels added to the nursing and midwifery services. This was made known in a letter from the Director-General of Ghana Health Service dated 4th April to all Regional Directors.
The letter states that: “In the Nursing and Midwifery service in Ghana, ranking levels exist to determine the roles and responsibilities from in-patient bedside care to leadership and management. In the traditional setup of the hierarchical system in the nursing and midwifery system in Ghana, belt colours have been used to distinguish the various ranking levels. Currently, the belt colours have been determined for four levels (Nursing Officer, Senior Nursing Officer, Principal Nursing Officer, and the Deputy Director for Nursing Services grades).”
In view of the introduction of two new levels in the nursing and midwifery service (Regional Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer and the Director, Nursing and Midwifery) it became imperative to determine two (2) new belt colours for the two categories.
