The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana has now converted the Registered Community Nursing programme to Registered Public Health Nursing. This was made known in a letter to the Deans and HODs of Universities and Principals of Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges.

According to the NMC, this is in line with its regulatory standards and international recognition and has become necessary due to the following reasons:

  1. There is no significant difference between the Public Health Nursing and the Registered Community Nursing curricula
  2. The few differences have been corrected
  3. Acceptability of the Public Health Nursing programme
  4. Placement of graduates in the job market

This directive is effective 2021 academic year according to the council.
