The chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Mr. Habib Mahama of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal confirmed the death of a nurse at the War Memorial Hospital in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region. The deceased was believed to have died of covid-19 at the Regional treatment center in Bolgatanga on Friday, 15th January.
The deceased was a Registered General Nurse (RGN) who worked at the Pediatric Unit, 15 other staff of the hospital tested positive for the virus. The staff who tested positive have since been quarantined and undergoing treatment.
As of June 3rd, 2020, over 168 nurses and midwives had tested positive for covid-19. The number of nurses and midwives infected now could be in the hundreds if not thousands. A lot of hospitals are still faced with inadequate logistics such as PPE’s.
