- Establish rapport (refer steps)
- Provide privacy and ensure client assume desired position
- Explain to client the need to attend antenatal clinic and procedures involved
- Explain to client it is a normal occurrence in pregnancy
- Teach client to clean vulva from front to back
- Encourage client to use warm saline water to wash the vulva
- Advice client o wear loose cotton underwear
- Encourage client to iron or dry washed underwear under the sun
- Encourage client to wear panty liner/perineal pad when discharge is excessive
- Advice client to avoid douching
- Advice client to report to the clinic in case the discharge becomes coloured, itchy or offensive
- Encourage client to ask questions and give appropriate answers
- Emphasize the need for client to adhere to information given
- Express appreciation of client for her cooperation
- Record and report all information in the Maternal and Child Health Book (Manual or Electronic)
