“WE WILL MOVE ON WITH DISCERNING MEMBERS” GRNMA PRESIDENT TELLS COALITIONS OF CONCERNED NURSES AND MIDWIVES (CCNM)

Following the recent outcome of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association’s (GRNMA) 16th Biennial Conference, it emerged that deductions including Building Levy, Nurses Fund and Dues were increased (Read article here). This came as a shock as many members of the association argued that no consultations were done before the increase. This has resulted in confusion and anger among members who believe executives of the association are taking them for granted.

A group called Coalition of Concerned Nurses and Midwives (CCNM) who are also members of the association released a press statement which some part reads:

“It is with deep sorrow and regret for one to belong to such an association which does not have the welfare of its members at heart but their own parochial interest. On that note the Coalition of Concerned Nurses and Midwives will not sit down this time round for the GRNMA to have their way.”

“CCNM is therefore cautioning the GRNMA to suspend the implementation of these impositions until further consultations and call emergency conference to relook at the issues or face en bloc resignation by members of the association and demand payment of our contributions with accrued interests from time of contributions.”

The President of GRNMA was called in an interview on tv3 to respond to the issues. The President of the association, Mr. Kweku Asante Krobea said he was surprised because consultations were done.

“We did consultation and these increments they talked about did not come about by the decision of the President or executives. It is the delegates conference that voted on these increases” Mr. Kweku Asante Krobea.

He also said the group wants to break away from GRNMA they should break away but they will continue with discerning members.

“We believe in freedom of association so if they are deciding to break away, so let it be. We will move on with the discerning members of the association who believe in prudent management of funds and visionary leadership.” Mr. Kweku Asante Krobea.
