STEPS #
PRE-OPERATIVE MANAGEMENT:
- Establish rapport (refer steps)
- Reinforce all explanation given by Obstetrician, expressing them in simply terms
- Ensure all investigation all carried out
- Arrange for cross matched blood to be ready for use
- Inform client briefly about how the operating room would look like and the basic equipment that would be used
- Encourage client companion to be with her during surgery where necessary
- Assess vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure) and record
- Ensure client maintain nil per os if surgery will be done under general anaesthesia
- Encourage client to take in light sips of nourishing fluids in case local anaesthesia will be used
- Pass urethral catheter where necessary
- Shave and clean client according to hospital protocol
- Remove any artificial appliances such as dentures, earrings, bangles etc.
- Change clothing into theatre gown
