STEPS #

  1. Establish rapport (refer steps)
  2. Explain procedure to client (refer steps)
  3. Provide privacy and ensure client assume desired position
  4. Explain to client the need to attend antenatal clinic regularly
  5. Inform client about the importance of physical examination, laboratory investigation, scan etc.
  6. Enquire about client expected date of delivery
  7. Enquire from client preparation made towards delivery and educate appropriately
  8. Assist client to decide on the facility/place of birth
  9. Assist client in deciding on the necessary support including a companion to stay with her during labour and to care for children at home
  10. Enquire about any valid Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) and advice where necessary
  11. Educate client on the signs of labour and what to expect during labour
  12. Counsel client on the need for a skilled provider during delivery
  13. Counsel client/support persons on how to save money towards delivery and emergency
  14. Inform client/support persons to make prior arrangement towards transportation during labour
  15. Encourage support persons donate blood prior to delivery
  16. Educate client on danger signs of pregnancy
  17. Encourage client to ask questions and give appropriate answers
  18. Emphasize the need for client to adhere to information given
  19. Express appreciation of client for her cooperation
  20. Record and report all information in the Maternal and Child Health Book (Manual or Electronic)
